Models & Item Numbers
All models mount to Picatinny (and most Weaver) rails and use Pos-Align® inserts. Torque specs shown are Burris current specs.
| Item # | Tube Size | Height to Center | Finish | Top-Cap Torque | Cross-Bolt Torque |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 420210 | 34 mm | 1.00 in | Matte | 20 in-lb | 45 in-lb |
| 420211 | 34 mm | 1.50 in | Matte | 20 in-lb | 45 in-lb |
| 420221 | 30 mm | 1.00 in | Matte | 20 in-lb | 45 in-lb |
| 420222 | 30 mm | 1.25 in | Matte | 20 in-lb | 45 in-lb |
| 420223 | 30 mm | 1.50 in | Matte | 20 in-lb | 45 in-lb |
| 420231 | 1 in | 1.00 in | Matte | 20 in-lb | 45 in-lb |
| 420232 | 1 in | 1.25 in | Matte | 20 in-lb | 45 in-lb |
| 420233 | 1 in | 1.50 in | Matte | 20 in-lb | 45 in-lb |
Note: Older manuals reference a 40–70 in-lb range for the base clamp screws; Burris’ current spec is 45 in-lb on the cross-bolts. Use 20 in-lb on top-cap screws.
What’s Included (Insert Sets)
- Concentric (0 MOA) inserts — one set
- ±5 MOA inserts — one set (≈ ±0.005")
- ±10 MOA inserts — one set (≈ ±0.010")
- ±20 MOA inserts — two sets (≈ ±0.020")
- Possible cant combinations per set: 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, or 40 MOA. }
Tech Notes (Quick Reference)
Installation — Step by Step
- Prep & position: Verify the firearm is unloaded. Secure the firearm. Loosely position ring bases ~4" apart on the rail.
- Choose inserts: Decide desired cant (0–40 MOA). Use matching pairs in each ring: + with − (e.g., +20/−20). “+” on the bottom raises that end; “−” lowers it. }
- Eye relief: Set scope to highest power. Place scope in lower inserts; shoulder the rifle and slide to max comfortable eye relief.
- Secure bases: Spread rings as far apart as practical; snug cross-bolts to 45 in-lb (see note above).
- Top caps: Install upper inserts and caps. Level the reticle. Tighten cap screws evenly and alternately to 20 in-lb with equal gap both sides.
Setting Cant & Windage with Inserts
You can induce elevation and windage simultaneously by rotating inserts. Example from the manual: at ~4.75" ring spacing, if your group is 10 MOA high/right, rotate the front ring’s inserts ~45° so the “fat” (+) faces the error direction (up/right) and the “thin” (−) faces away—this steers the scope toward the point of impact. Alternatively, adjust the rear ring in the opposite sense. Fire a group and finish with scope turrets if you’re within ~3" of POI.
Example of achieving 25 MOA down-cant: Front ring −20 (bottom)/+20 (top) plus rear ring +5 (bottom)/−5 (top).
Care & Good Practices
- No lapping required; do not modify inserts.
- Re-check torque after first range session.
- Keep gaps even on both sides of each cap for best alignment.

Quick-Pick Insert Recipes (Downward Cant for Long-Range)
Downward scope cant = objective slightly lower than the eyepiece. This increases usable “up” elevation for distance shooting. Recipes below assume typical ~4.75" ring spacing.
| Target Cant (MOA) | Front Ring (bottom / top) | Rear Ring (bottom / top) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 MOA | Concentric / Concentric | Concentric / Concentric | No cant |
| 5 MOA | −5 / +5 | Concentric / Concentric | Alternate: rear +5 / −5, front concentric |
| 10 MOA | −10 / +10 | Concentric / Concentric | All in front ring for simplicity |
| 15 MOA | −10 / +10 | +5 / −5 | Front adds 10; rear adds 5 |
| 20 MOA | −20 / +20 | Concentric / Concentric | Common PRS/NRL setup |
| 25 MOA | −20 / +20 | +5 / −5 | Manual example configuration |
| 30 MOA | −20 / +20 | +10 / −10 | Check objective clearance |
| 40 MOA | −20 / +20 | +20 / −20 | Max included cant (uses both ±20 sets) |
Tip: If your ring spacing isn’t ~4.75", actual MOA will vary slightly. Use the spacing/MOA chart in the manual to fine-tune.
How it Works (Orientation Basics)
Windage & Diagonal Corrections (Rotate Inserts)
You can rotate inserts to add windage (or diagonal) correction. Use the “steer toward POI” method:
- Adjusting the front ring: Rotate ~45°. Put the − insert toward the error and the + insert away from the error. This moves the front of the scope toward the POI.
- Adjusting the rear ring: Orientation is the opposite: put the + insert toward the error and the − insert away. This moves the rear of the scope to point the optic toward the POI.
If your new group lands within ~3" of desired impact after rotating, finish with your scope turrets.
Torque & What’s Included
- Included inserts: Concentric (0), ±5, ±10, and two sets of ±20 (supports 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 40 MOA combos).
- Top-cap torque: 20 in-lb. Cross-bolt torque: 45 in-lb (current Burris spec).
- Legacy manuals show 40–70 in-lb for clamp screws; 45 in-lb is a safe target unless your rail/host specifies otherwise.
