Tech Notes — Astigmatism, Blurry Dots & Setup Tips
• Astigmatism: Uncorrected astigmatism or dry eyes can make the dot look like a starburst/comet. Check by viewing the dot through a phone camera (should look crisp), and/or lower brightness.
• Training (handguns): Bring the sight close to your eye to acquire the dot, then press out slowly while keeping it centered; repeat until presentation is automatic.
• Mounting gotcha: If you see a tiny emitter glow low in the field of view but no dot on the window, the sight is likely mounted backward—flip it.
• Emitter cleanliness: Smudges, oil, or dust on the small emitter lens can blur/flare the dot. Blow off dust, use a soft lens brush, then (only if needed) a tiny amount of lens cleaner on microfiber. Avoid harsh solvents; do not touch the LED. • My sight is maxed out what do I do? Get ahold of a UM Tactical shim to add more adjustment to your optic. UM Tactical

3) Mounting (Plates, Orientation, Torque)
| Topic | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Plates / Bases | Many firearms need model-specific plates (e.g., 1911 Std/Adj, Glock, SIG P226, XD, Ruger Mk I–III, Sako, Marlin 336/444/1895, Win 94, S&W M&P). The Picatinny/Weaver plate is included with item 300232. |
| Picatinny / Weaver | Place gasket (metal side down) on the plate, then the sight. Install the two #6-48 screws and tighten to ~12 in-lb. Place the mount on the rail (cross-screw in slot), keep light forward pressure, and tighten the clamp nut to ~20 in-lb. |
| Orientation Check | Window faces the target. A tiny emitter glow with no dot on the glass often indicates backward mounting. |
4) Power & Brightness
- Automatic brightness: Front sensor adjusts dot intensity to lighting; keep it unobstructed/clean.
- On/Off: Use the ON/OFF switch for storage/travel to save power.
- Battery install: Insert CR2032 from the underside, “+” label visible; magnet seats the cell. Keep contacts clean (alcohol if needed). Do not stack coin cells.
5) Zeroing
- Unlock first: Loosen the two rear lock screws ~½ turn.
- Adjust: Use the scale disc/screwdriver on the “UP/LEFT” slotted screws. 1 tick = 1 MOA (~1″@100 yd; 0.5″@50 yd).
- Stops: Windage has limit stops; driving into a stop can lock the other axis—back off a few ticks to re-center. Downward stop for elevation is available only when installed on a mounting plate.
- Lock down: Retighten the lock screws before shooting (snug—don’t overtighten).
6) Environmental & Care
- Water-resistant; usable after accidental submersion. After salty/dirty water, rinse with distilled water and dry.
- Clean optics with blower/soft brush first; then lens tissue/solution if needed.
