Burris FastFire® 3 — Red Dot Reflex Sight

Tech Note — Astigmatism & “blurry” dots: Many shooters with uncorrected astigmatism or dry eyes will see a starburst/comet-shaped dot. This is an eye issue, not a sight defect. Quick checks: (1) Look at the dot through a phone camera—the dot should appear crisp if the optic is fine; (2) Turn the brightness down; (3) Try the 3 MOA model if you’re sensitive to bloom.
Training tip to “find the dot” (handguns): bring the sight close to your eye to visually acquire the dot, then press out slowly while keeping the dot centered; repeat until presentation becomes automatic.
Mounting gotcha: if you see a tiny emitter glow low in the field of view (and not a dot on the window), the sight is likely mounted backwards—flip it around. Also check the emitter: A smudge, oil, or dust on the small emitter lens can make the dot look blurry or irregular. Clean gently with a blower first, then a soft lens brush, and only if needed a single drop of lens cleaner on a microfiber. Avoid harsh solvents and don’t touch the LED.

3) Mounting (Plates, Orientation, Torque)

Plates / Bases	FastFire 3 fits many pistols/rifles via model-specific plates (Glock, 1911, S&W M&P, SIG P226, XD, Beretta, Ruger, etc.) and includes a Weaver/Picatinny plate on select models; see the mount list in the manual.
Picatinny / Weaver	Place cross-screw in a slot, ensure clamp edges fully engage, apply light forward pressure toward the muzzle, then tighten the clamp nut to ~20 in-lb.
AR-F3 Mount	Seat mount on rail and tighten the nut to 20 in-lb; then fasten the sight to the mount with the Torx® screws at 12 in-lb.
Orientation Check	The window faces the target. If you only see a tiny glow from the emitter low in the view and no dot on the glass, the optic is likely mounted backward.

4) Power & Brightness

Modes: Auto (sensor-controlled), High, Medium, Low, then Off (tap the left button to cycle).
Low battery signal: Dot blinks twice every ~5 s when ≲4 hours of power remain.
Auto note: The front sensor reads target-side light; keep it unobstructed for best Auto performance.
Battery install: Top-load CR1632, positive side up; do not substitute stacked cells. Don’t overtighten the cap.

5) Zeroing

Adjusters: Elevation on top; windage on right. 1 tick = 1 MOA (~1″ @ 100 yd; ~0.5″ @ 50 yd). Use a small coin/flat tool.
End-stop behavior: Windage has limit stops; running into a stop also locks the other axis. Back off a few ticks to re-center.

6) Environmental & Care

Water-resistant; survives rain/snow and accidental submersion. Rinse salt/dirt with distilled water and dry.
Clean lenses with blower/soft brush first; then lens tissue/solution.
Emitter lens cleaning: With the sight off, inspect the small emitter lens. Blow off dust, use a soft lens brush, then (only if needed) a tiny amount of lens cleaner on microfiber. Avoid harsh solvents and do not touch the LED itself.
